Mother’s Day is May 9th and is quickly approaching! This will be the first Mother’s Day without my mom, and I am honestly not looking forward to celebrating this year. I will definitely still honor her and visit her gravesite with a beautiful bouquet of flowers that she always enjoyed, but her physical presence will be very much missed this year and for years to come. I used to enjoy going shopping for my mom and usually over did it with the gifts :). I remember last year, I ordered her an arrangement of flowers from the local florist shop and I wanted to surprise her with a delivery to her doorstep, but to my surprise, the flower arrangement was so tiny when they delivered it and I felt awful, so my husband and I went to Walmart and bought her a big oversized Mother’s Day card, a pair of cute leopard print slide-on sneakers, a candle, some pajamas and some candy to make up for the disappointing flower arrangement. When I gave her the bag of goodies, she looked at me and said “Now why did you go buy all this stuff? You already got me flowers!” I told her that I felt bad because I envisioned a big arrangement of flowers and was completely underwhelmed by what she got. She laughed, and said “thank you, but all I really wanted is to spend time with my kids and nieces and nephews today.” Little did I know that it would be our last Mother’s Day together. I miss my mom more than anything in this world, but I know that her spirit lives with me every where I go, and Mother’s Day will always be special to me because of her.
For those of you that may need a little inspiration on what to get the moms in your life for Mother’s Day this year, I have put together a few gift guides to help take the stress off of your plate.
