If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that our health is extremely important and we should treat our body like a temple. I started a new wellness routine in 2020 to help improve my health and I am sharing all of my secrets today. Below are 8 things that I do every day as a part of my routine to stay fit and healthy. I have also linked all of my favorite items for you to shop and help you get started on your own health journey.
- Vitamins– The first thing I do every morning is brush my teeth, apply moisturizer to my face and take my vitamins. I take various vitamins for different reasons; prenatals for overall health and hopefully a healthy pregnancy soon, Vitamin D3 for muscle function, bone health and immune function, Fish Oil/Omega 3 for heart, joint and brain health, Probiotics for digestive health, CoQ10 for heart health and fertility benefits, Vitamin C+ Zinc for adequate nutrition and immune defense and Tru Niagen for anti-aging, increased energy, metabolism and cellular repair. Please note that I am not a health expert and you should consult with your doctor before taking any vitamins or supplements.
- Hydrate– It’s extremely important to stay hydrated throughout the day and drink plenty of water. I personally have a hard time keeping up with my water intake, so I purchased a water bottle that has a time marker on it to help me stay focused and motivated to drink a sufficient amount of water each day. I also recently started using Liquid IV supplement packets. These packets are a hydration multiplier containing electrolytes that utilizes Cellular Transport Technology to deliver hydration to your bloodstream faster and more efficiently than water alone. Each packet can provide the same hydration as drinking 2-3 bottles of water. Pretty cool, huh?!
- Stretch/Yoga/Meditation– It is crucial to your overall health to stretch every day. Stretching keeps the muscles strong, flexible and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Yoga is a wonderful practice that incorporates stretching and mind-body awareness. I make sure to stretch or practice yoga every day for a minimum of 10 minutes. With my yoga practice, I am able to meditate and calm my mind when I am feeling anxious or stressed. On days that I don’t do yoga, I use the Headspace app on my phone to help motivate me to meditate during the day. It’s amazing what a short breathing exercise can do for your mental health!
- Morning Smoothie– I recently started making a smoothie at home every morning for breakfast. This smoothie is full of antioxidants, crucial vitamins, protein and collagen. I started incorporating collagen peptides into my smoothie based on the benefits that include improving skin health, relieving joint pain, preventing bone loss, boosting muscle mass, promoting heart health, hair & nail health, gut health, brain health and weight loss. It takes about 5 mins to make and tastes pretty dang good too! Below is the recipe for your health and tasting pleasure. I use the mini magic Bullet to blend and use the larger cup that comes with it (linked below). 1 banana cut into slices, a handful of blueberries. 3 strawberries cut up, 1 tablespoon of Chia Seeds, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, 1 scoop of collagen peptides, 1/2 scoop of protein powder (I use a vanilla flavor), fill the rest of the cup with almond milk. Blend for about a minute, and voila, you have a delicious and healthy breakfast smoothie!
- Make a To-Do List– I start my mornings with making/reviewing my to-do list. It helps me stay organized with work and my personal life and helps me prioritize my day. I use a weekly/monthly planner to help me stay organized with my bills/finances and I have a daily planner to help plan out each day. I know a lot of people use their phone or excel spreadsheets, but there is something about writing things down and crossing them off that gives me a sense of accomplishment!
- Move/Workout– Exercise is also important for your physical and mental health. You should strive to workout 3 to 4 days a week for at least 30 minutes. I know, I struggle with it too, but just think about how much better you feel after a workout! Increased energy, improved mood, better sleep and combats health conditions and diseases are all benefits of exercise! I recently purchased an Apple Watch Series 6 and I absolutely love being able to track my movements and workouts and getting that extra motivation to get my workouts in or even just to remember to stand up during the day while I’m working. It also tracks my heart rate and blood O2 levels and has an ECG monitor to help monitor my heart rhythm. My watch has provided me a peace of mind during this pandemic, which has been such a stress reliever. Below is some of my favorite workout gear and my Apple Watch for your shopping pleasure 😊
- Meal Prep– My husband and I started meal prepping as a way to save money and to help prevent us from eating fast food. We meal prep for lunch and still cook dinner together most nights. We usually cook ground Turkey, brown rice and broccoli for lunch, and I will sometimes substitute the broccoli for half an avocado. We cook everything on Sunday nights and store it in the refrigerator in individual containers for the week. It was hard to adjust from ground beef to ground turkey at first, but we were advised to get the 85% lean/ 15% fat which has more flavor, but is still a much healthier alternative to ground beef. I have also been using Home Chef meal delivery service for dinner a couple of nights a week. The meals are amazing and all ingredients are shipped fresh to your doorstep. Step by step instructions are included with each meal making it super easy and convenient to prepare dinner. You can customize your meals based on your diet, whether you are carb conscious, calorie conscious or vegetarian. - Night Time routine-The last thing I do every night is take time to care for my skin. I wash my face, apply eye cream and apply moisturizer at night. I also use a hydrating face mask a couple of nights a week as well. My favorite skincare product is Tula. Tula is a clean product that is built on the power of probiotics and superfoods. My skin has never been healthier and this product leaves my skin feeling smooth and hydrated!
I hope you start to incorporate some of these things into your daily routine…I promise, you will be happy that you did and will live a much healthier lifestyle!
